A vase made of cut, bent sheet metal that is welded together. Monica Förster Design Studio has worked with the weld joint as an element that creates character and expression in the vase instead of grinding it down and hiding it as is normally done.
The purpose behind the RAW project is to find new, exciting and unusual ways to make objects out of metal and to use the many years of expertise in metalworking that we possess. Creative processes and the influence of the hand meet industrial production. We have worked with metal in various manufacturing processes such as casting, turning, and polishing in eco brass, gas cutting, bending and welding in raw steel sheet metal. The processes leave traces in the material that are usually removed during post-processing, but which are left here and become beautiful details that are instead highlighted. Simple archetypal geometries with stringent curvature allow materiality and process to take over and create character in the objects.
